Hi there! It’s so nice to virtually meet you. My name is Emma and I’m the Lola Getts Style Ambassador. Since we can’t have a face to face convo (yet!) via this blog, let me tell you a little bit about myself.
I’m a 20-something, from Southern California, and I’ve spent my career thus far in fashion. I worked as a department manager at Nordstrom for many years, and then left to start my own styling firm about two and a half years ago. I’ve always been in love with fashion and it’s my favorite way to connect with people.
As a curvy gal myself, I’ve struggled to find clothes that worked for my body for as long as I can remember, but have always enjoyed playing sports, working out, and being active. It was always such a challenge to find plus size active wear that actually fit. Leggings were constantly see-through, waist bands would slip down with the smallest movement, and workout tops didn’t exist. During my time in retail, I was squeezing into brands that didn’t actually make my size, but that’s all that was available, so I “made it work”, as best I could. But then, I was scrolling online one day and saw a brand that had a cute name, Lola Getts. It was the same price range as the other active wear brands I had been buying, so I wasn’t convinced it was going to be any different to what I was used to. I ordered one pair of leggings (at the time, only about 3 or 4 items were being carried), and when they arrived, very quickly I might add, they were different. The fabric was thick and opaque, the waistband was sturdy, and the fit was perfect. They hugged in all the right places, and smoothed over all the things I didn’t want to accentuate. These leggings were a game changer. I cherished these leggings. Looked forward to wearing them, and still have that same pair all these years later. They wash beautifully and look just like they did when I first took them out of the box. Later on, I would come to learn that among many of the things that sets Lola Getts apart from other brands, they cut and fit their patterns on a curvy model. I’ll talk more about the importance of this in another blog post soon, so stay tuned.
Cut to the end of 2018, I ended up getting connected with Stacey, the founder of Lola Getts, and here I am now, chatting to you beauties and getting to be part of such an innovative, unique, and important company making serious waves in an industry that has been stuck with the same image of what “health” looks like for decades.
